Intrepid
Sea-Air-Space Museum was originally the vision of Zachary Fisher, who
spent 24 million of his own money in order to save the Intrepid from
being sent to the scrap yard. His vision was to make the Intrepid a
lasting memorial to those who sacrificed their lives for our country, to
educate the public, and to inspire our youth.
From the time she was commissioned in 1943 to the time she was declared
a National Historic Landmark, the U.S.S. Intrepid sailed the Four
Corners of the world.
She
took part in the largest naval engagement in history, served as a prime
recovery vessel for NASA and completed three tours of duty during the
Vietnam Conflict.
The
U.S.S. Intrepid emerged with an enviable record - a tribute to the
courage and leadership of the thousands of sailors that proudly served
onboard.
The
Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum annually draws over 600,000 visitors a
year. The Museum has become a must see attraction known worldwide |
