Pack 28 was
the largest group attending Wild Webelos Weekend 2000.
This was the 11th
Anniversary of Wild Webelos Weekend as hosted by the Housatonic Council.
After arriving at camp on
Friday evening and setting up, the campfire was started and everyone
settled in getting accustomed to their new home with nature. Charlie
Nolan, our chef, rustled up some popcorn chicken ala Nolan. As the evening
progressed, the temperatures were much milder than just one year ago when the
overnight temperature dipped to freezing.
Saturday morning at 7AM, breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, sauage,
coffee, milk and orange juice was welcomed. Chef Nolan had been quite busy
since 6AM with preparation. Breakfast was quickly over as we prepared for the busy day ahead.
The scouts were assembled in the main field for the Opening Ceremonies and plans for the day ahead working on a host of
Webelo
Activities. This continued throughout the day with a lunch break at 12
noon. The scouts were learning yet having loads of fun. The weather
was perfect.
Late
afternoon brought free-time back at the campsite. Some scouts went fishing while others
whittled while one took an unexpected dip in the nearby stream. Dinner was just a few
short hours away. And what a feast it was.
Saturday
night, Pack 28 chowed down on Chicken-ala-Nolan by Chef Nolan. There was plenty for all and than some. Hot dogs
were also served up. Bug juice cocktail was readied for the thirsty along with hot
cocoa and coffee. Marshmallows over the fire made the evening a memorable event that the scouts and parents will not
soon forget.
The
Housatonic Council hosted a Saturday night campfire with each Pack putting on a
skit or leading a song. Under the musical direction of Mr. Bruce
Bednarsky, Pack 28 performed a patriotic rendition of "God Bless The USA" and
"God
Bless America" as a closing to the nights campfire. The emotions ran high
in light of the recent tragic events that took place just a few shorts weeks
prior.
Sunday
morning brought a close to a wonderful campout. Closing Ceremonies were
conducted with all Packs assembled while the flags. Thoughts of what a fun time was had by all and
knowing that this will be repeated again next year came to mind. For some,
this would be their last Wild Webelos Weekend as they will move up to Boy Scouts
soon. For others, next year will make them the Senior Webelos with
experience.
And so the cycle begins again.
See you next
year.
