DEN 1
Graduated March 2002

Denleaders: Bob & Carmela Giuliani

Meetings: are held on Friday evenings two times per month according to the printed schedules.  Meeting schedules are updated as needed.

Den 1 Members: Mike, Bobby, Bowen, Marshall, and Robert.

The scouts painted the Cub Scout busts you see below during the Spring 2000 season.

We try to integrate projects as well along with fun during the den meetings.  Here you see the scouts enjoying a table game in which they must keep a small ball from falling off the edge of the table by blowing it in the opposite direction.  This produces high levels of fun and competition for the scouts.

All boys have earned their Bear badges which were presented to them during the Blue and Gold Dinner in February and are now working towards Arrow points. Several of the scouts have earned the Conservation Award.

Bobby has worked towards the Emblems of Faith (Achievement 2), Parvuli Dei Medal since September 1999.  He was awarded the medal on Sunday, May 7, 2000 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, CT.   This was a goal Bobby had decided to go for and consisted of many parts being completed on an individual and family basis, being reviewed by the Den Leader, Cub Master, Parish Priest and Council Review Board.  Congratulations Bobby.

Bowen was the Year 2000 Pinewood Derby Champion.  Having designed a high speed car, he was overall FIRST PLACE winner this year.    GREAT JOB Bowen!

The scouts repainted a modified Soapbox Derby racer from the prior year on April 21, 2000 which made its debut on April 30th. at the annual Soapbox Derby showdown. With a new body design now attached to a proven chassis, the boys were equipped with paint brushes in hand and a fresh can of paint. As you can see by the photos, this type of den meeting calls for old clothes as you can imagine. More than a few drops of paint missed their target.

The boys were given their assigned areas to paint. They quickly adapted and tackled the mission with vigor.

Within 30 minutes, more than 50% of the surface area was covered in a simmering coat of blue paint. (Not to mention a few shirts).

Within the following 30 minutes, the final brush strokes were within hand.  The boys knew that their reward was waiting for them in the form of a snack for a job well-done.

And so it came to be. A well deserved rest and time to review their accomplishment.  They knew that they had done their best, win or loose.

Afterall, that is what Scouting is all about.  Doing ones best and always trying to do better.

Year End Pizza & Swim Party - June 2000

We try to finish up each year with a June get-together with a break from the usual.  This year featured Pizza with a variety of  toppings.  The weather was sunny and the pool was warm so swimming was in order.  This was followed up by a Make-Your-Own-Ice Cream Sundae.

Pizza time.
